Impatiens are shade loving annuals that will bloom their heads off with some moisture.  They come in a wide range of colors and types including traditional singles, frilly doubles, large New Guinea types and unique hybrids.

Exposure: Morning Sun, Shade for most types.

Lantana flowers love the heat and sun.  Newer hybrids frequently have multiple colors on the same bloom.  They work wonderfully in baskets and containers.  In beds, plant them in well-drained soil.  These are wonderful for attracting butterflies.

Marigolds offer easy care and season-long color.  They attract butterflies and repel aphids in vegetable gardens.  The African types will give height in the garden while the French varieties can be used in both gardens and containers.

Bright cheerful annual marguerite daisies (Argyranthemum) are a sunny, summer staple.  Blooms all summer.  Pinch the tips to get a bushy plant.  Deadheading gives you the best show.

A much-loved bushy trailing flower.  Lobelia can be grown in sun and part sun locations if given consistently moist soil.  A favorite for mixed baskets and containers and also used as an edging plant at the front of the border.  (But, avoid hot areas such as near a sidewalk).

Heliotrope has clustered lavender flowers that are well-loved for their strong vanilla fragrance.  Heat-loving annual that attracts both butterflies and hummingbirds.  Compact varieties will reach approximately one foot high by one foot wide.

Gazanias are a short flower with big impact!  Large flowers open during the day to reveal striking daisy-like blooms.   Some varieties will have striping on the petals.  If you’ve got a full sun spot at the front of your border, plant a few of these.
